Lühesand is an island in the Elbe River - largely designated as a nature reserve - located southeast of Stade and just under an hour’s drive from the center of Hamburg.
Let yourself be captivated by the unique atmosphere of Lühesand; kick back, relax, and put your feet up along the banks of the Elbe as the sun sets. It’s the perfect spot to watch the ships go by - every vessel, large or small, heading toward the Port of Hamburg sails right past the island.
Lühesand is currently in its winter slumber; the island will reopen in April 2027, ready for your getaway in the heart of nature!

Looking to visit for just a few days - or perhaps just for the day - rather than staying the entire season?
A small passenger ferry will take you and your tent over to the island, where you can enjoy its peace and idyllic charm for a few days. Lühesand is the perfect spot for a short getaway surrounded by nature. Watch the sunset by the river in the evening, listen to the sounds of the outdoors, and experience camping in its purest, most authentic form. Come visit and discover your own little slice of paradise on our island!

Bring your caravan over to the island this spring and settle in for a cozy summer. Would you prefer a shady spot beneath the trees, or perhaps an open, airy space in a meadow? The choice is yours - create your own personal slice of paradise on the island.
For the full season - from April to mid-October - the cost is a flat rate of €2,500.00 for your own private retreat. How about a delicious breakfast buffet to start your day? It’s the perfect way to begin a relaxing day on this Elbe river island. Stop by and treat yourself to our breakfast selection! Please call us in advance at 04177-7116787 to reserve your spot for the breakfast buffet, which is available on Saturdays and Sundays.
In the afternoon, we serve up tasty cakes, locally sourced ice cream, and light snacks - like pinsa - to accompany a hot cup of coffee. What could be better than settling in on our newly renovated terrace on a sunny summer day, putting your feet up, and letting the kids burn off some energy on the bouncy castle? We can’t imagine anything better!
Ferry to Lühesand
Starting in April 2027, our passenger ferry will take you from the pier in Grünendeich to the island and back every day - a relaxing way to travel. The ferry ride itself helps you slow down, allowing you to unwind completely as you arrive on this natural island in the Elbe!
The fare is €6.00 per day for adults and €4.00 per day for children. No reservation is required; simply head to the pier in Grünendeich whenever you’d like to go. Please note that dogs and bicycles are not permitted on the island.
